Employees must be provided a safe workplace that is reasonably free of occupational hazards. However, injuries do occur. Therefore, employers are required to provide medical and first aid personnel and supplies sufficient enough to deal with the expected hazards of the workplace. The goal of this training is to provide general information that may be of assistance during an injury situation.

Do You Know if OSHA Requires First Aid Training for You?
Before selecting a First Aid General Awareness course or a full certification, it’s important to understand the level of training your workplace may need. OSHA does not require every workplace to have first aid–trained employees, but it does require employers to ensure timely access to medical care.
OSHA regulation 29 CFR 1910.151(b) states:
“In the absence of an infirmary, clinic, or hospital in near proximity to the workplace which is used for the treatment of all injured employees, a person or persons shall be adequately trained to render first aid.”
What This Means for Training
- If emergency medical services are not readily available, OSHA requires trained first aid responders on-site. Our general awareness training does not meet that requirement.
- The level of training should match the hazards of the workplace.
